Mary O’Connor & 3 year old son Hugh are down for the week. Mary is a children and schools are shut for a week here the week of Halloween. When I was walking to town I met Joe Herlihy, Brianie’s father. He’s bought a bike to get some exercise.
If schools are closed for a week, is Halloween a major celebration in Ireland? Gleaned from the web some Irish traditions seem to be construction of parshell, bonfires, processions carrying lanterns and having a typical Irish halloween meal (which could be boxty – potato pancakes – I remember my grandmother making these) and eating bairin breac. In your part of Ireland, are these still the traditions or is the web correct – “fabric of tradition is wearing thin”?
